Rather than getting on a bus this back to school season for some kids means getting "online." The Clark family from Colorado Springs has their daughters enrolled in a virtual school program through the Connections Academy.
Classes are taught at home like home school, but their materials and curriculum are created and paid for with public tax dollars in similar what that a charter schools are funded.
Cherry Clark says she enjoys the level of participation she has in her daughters’ education.
"The only thing I worried about was interaction with other students and we take care of that through the field trips,” Clark said. “She goes to horseback riding for her P.E. and that's with another Connections Academy student as well as other students in the community so she gets that interaction from other ways."
Clark says parents of Connections Academy students play a large role in making sure their students learn their lesson plans. However, they are also in regular contact with teachers who oversee the virtual classrooms.
