Work is about to begin on a new homeless services facility that serves Colorado Springs.
But first, it's out with the old. Demolition of the existing Marian House soup kitchen begins on Wed. The new facility will provide much-needed services to those in need, and is scheduled to be finished by Jan. Although the Marian House staff looks forward to the new building, they have many memories of the old one.
"It's hard for some of the folks that have given a lot of time, a lot of volunteers," said Jason Christensen, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Colorado Springs. "In a way they are grieving but they're also forward thinking, they're positive about what is going to be there."
A new soup kitchen opened in June next to the old one.
