It was a chance for John McCain and Barack Obama to make their cases to evangelicals. The two candidates were questioned for an hour each Saturday night by pastor and author Rick Warren.

They differed sharply on abortion, with McCain saying a baby's human rights begin "at conception," and Obama restating his support for legalized abortion. But he also said more should be done to avoid unwanted pregnancies.

Asked what he thinks is America's greatest moral failure, Obama said it's not doing enough to help the disadvantaged, including the victims of poverty, sexim and racism.

McCain said the nation's greatest moral flaw is its failure to focus on causes greater than self-interest.

Both men said they regard marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Obama added that he supports civil unions for gay partners.

Midway through the program as Obama ended his segment and McCain came on to the stage for his, the two candidates exchanged handshakes and a hug and stood smiling between Warren as the audience applauded.
