There are resources on the internet one person may call amazing, while another thinks it is an invasion of privacy. Can there be too much information, especially when it comes to your privacy?
An example debated by some is Google Street View. Go to http://maps.google.com/help/maps/streetview/ and type in a street address and the service gives you a 360 degree video view. Google is spending millions taking all these pictures to attract people to the site.
For some it’s a convenience. There are others who may want the exposure. There are also those who don’t like what the see. It may be concerns about privacy. It could also be they don’t like the way their property is portrayed. Google explain that people can request that pictures be removed or have elements blurred. "Most forthright companies are going to remove it in prompt manner,” says R.A. Burrell, who heads Internet Honey a Colorado Springs based on-line marketing company.
He cautions that Street View is just one example and sites that contain personal information are expanding fast. "Even though we work in the industry every day we're always surprised at how many more websites there are coming on line."
His recommendation: be extremely cautious with the personal information you put out on the internet. Also, be proactive protecting yourself. "Go to a dozen different sites and search for information that may be relevant to you." If you find things that you think are too specific or questionable contact the web-site and asked to be removed.
