“Colorado native born and raised,” says Jeremy Abbott. Only these days he is spending a lot of time outside Colorado traveling the globe to compete in international figure skating competitions.
When he is home in Colorado the likely place to find him is at the ice rink. All day, nearly every day he is practicing. He is one of the likely top contenders at the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships and the World Championships.
At early season international Grand Prix competitions he took first at the finals. The result has garnered extra media attention. According to Jeremy, “It’s exciting and at times a little strange. I’m not quite sure how to deal with it all, but it’s a lot of fun.” It is also something he and his coaches work to keep from distracting his focus.
His to current top ten international standing has taken years of work. He started skating at two, then took his training to a higher level with Broadmoor Skating Club coaches at fourteen. Now at age twenty-three, lofty goals appear within reach. "It's an odd sort of felling to have your dreams start to come to fruition. Like by no means have I achieved all I want to accomplish, but like to have it start happening and have the wheels start turning is incredible."
