Dozens of new cars and trucks, led by Ford and its Volvo subsidiary, have made the insurance industry's annual list of safest vehicles.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says for the 2009 model year, Ford and Volvo have 16 vehicles on the list, followed by Honda with 13. Volkswagen and its Audi brand had nine vehicles on the list. GM and Toyota each had eight.
Last week, Chrysler, Ford and GM were in Washington saying they'll give congressional Democrats a plan for rebuilding their industry in exchange for a bailout package. This was after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said if there's a viable plan, Congress might return to work in early December for a vote.
