Wildfire burning in Fremont County

A wildfire is burning in Fremont County, above Canon City, on YMCA Mountain.  The fire is near the confluence of Grape Creek and the Arkansas River. 

According to Fremont County Sheriff James Beicker, the fire is in extremely rocky terrain and is not threatening any structures. The fire is in the jurisdiction of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

The fire is burning pinon pines and grass.  A firefighting helicopter with a water bucket has been called-in from Monument to attack the fire from the air.
