El Paso County Republicans cancel "predatory press" discussion
Story By:
Source: KOAA
More fallout from the News First investigation of the District Attorney's office - the El Paso County Republican Party took issue with our reporting and sent out a private email to announce a closed-door meeting to discuss it. We obtained a copy of that email.
In it, County Republican Chairman Greg Garcia writes, "In light of the recent immoral and unethical reporting by KOAA about our outstanding District Attorney, John Newsome, I would like to invite you to an hour long meeting, to discuss and brainstorm the issue of the predatory press ... What has happened to John could happen to us all. Please send regrets only, otherwise, I'll see you there."
That email was sent out Thursday. We sent a crew to Republican headquarters Friday afternoon to get a comment from Garcia, but he would not speak to us on camera.
Late Friday, however, the County GOP sent out a news release from Nathan Fisk, Executive Director for El Paso County Republicans: "After speaking with several elected officials running in to several scheduling conflicts and, after speaking with John Newsome, that meeting is being cancelled at this time. The request from John Newsome, and from the El Paso County Party Leadership, is that we focus on the important political challenges and strengths of our community as we approach an extremely critical election period.
