An independent mortgage lender with offices in Georgia and seven other states, including Colorado, has closed suddenly, surprising its employees.
Smyrna-based Sunshine Mortgage Corp. closed Thursday after 27 years in business. It had 20 offices throughout Georgia, Florida, the Carolinas, Maryland, Tennessee, Mississippi and Colorado. According to Sunshine Mortgage Corp. website the one office in Colorado is in Colorado Springs.
Carlisle Dent, a mortgage consultant in an Atlanta office, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that employees found out at 4 p.m. Wednesday. "We were all in shock," said Dent, who had worked at Sunshine for almost 10 years.
He said the No. 1 concern now is moving clients with locked-in rates to other companies.
Senior company officials could not be reached to comment. According to Crane, they said a few months ago that Sunshine was in good shape financially.
