After a treacherous Sunday on the roads, people are packing into tire shops. On Sunday night, ice and blowing snow caused several accidents along the Front Range. Drivers also reported taking several hours to get from Colorado Springs to Monument.
On Monday, people packed into tire shops to get their winter tires. We went to Rex Tires and Discount Tires in Colorado Springs. Both shops say, after the first big storm, they get a business boom. "There's a lot of safety, and research that goes into winter tires that they truly make a difference when the temperature tends to drop," says Josh Lovejoy at Discount Tire.
They recommend all season tires for city driving. You might want studded, or non-studded snow tires if you drive a lot in the mountains. If you're not sure your tires are prepared for snow driving most places will inspect them for free.
