Maybe your holiday shopping will take you to the car dealerships. If so, here's a sign of the times. There's a "buy-one-get-one-free" sale going on at a Colorado Springs car dealership.
If you buy a top of the line Hyundai for between 20 and 30 thousand dollars, you can get an Accent for one-dollar.
The dealership is trying to get customers on the lot and cars off it.
The first problem the dealership faced was high gas prices. Now, it's the unstable economy, and the credit market crisis. So they're hoping to get rid of some of their inventory, by creating an offer that's hard to refuse.
"We need to move some of these models," said Kenn Patton, the General Manager of Phil Long Hyundai.
It's not a deal you see every day, and it's already attracting a lot of attention.
"You buy one, you get one for a dollar, that's a real good deal," said Simon Gomez, a customer checking out the cars.
The Hyundai dealership is selling three fully loaded models, the Santa Fe, the Vera cruz SUV, and the Entourage Mini-Van, for full price, and the standard Accent for one dollar.
"Buy one, get one for a dollar," said a salesman to a customer, who responded with "No kidding?"
While it's not very profitable for the dealership, it's getting customers on the lot and into cars.
"I think what you do as a business owner is you take what the market is and you make that work," said Patton.
Right now, it looks like it's a buyer's market, and people looking for new cars, have the advantage. "I went to another vendor not far from here, and they were willing to take 12-14 thousand dollars off the sticker price, so that tells me they're anxious to move their product as well, said Michael Fritz, a customer.
"Nice thing is if you get the third row, you automatically get the entertainment center as well, so you get the dvd," said a salesman to another couple checking out the cars.
DVD's, price cuts, and a car for one dollar. Salesmen are throwing in all kinds of bonuses, as they try to make it through the economic downturn.
"Folks aren't looking to be out there searching for vehicles at full price, they're looking for great deals right now," said Patton.
The car dealership has already sold at least 5 cars with this deal on Friday. The sale is supposed to last through this weekend.
