Organizers of a four mile race want to make it as big as "Race for the Cure." The first "Run 4 U.S. was held Saturday afternoon at Turkey Creek Ranch - 10 miles south of Fort Carson.
375 runners competed. Money raised will support programs for wounded warriors.
Colonel Dave Servinski of Fort Carson says he intends to take the concept to Washington and get the Army to run races in all 50 states. He'd like to see the winners of those races return to Colorado Springs for a national race.
He hopes such races create connections between soldiers and civilians who share a common passion - running. And he says wounded warriors programs need the financial support. Many of the competitors were soldiers. They say they're running for those who can't.
