Police don't plan to use pain ray guns or weapons that shoot goo or slime to control unruly protesters at the Democratic National Convention. But it's not clear if the city has stocked up on tear gas or pepper spray.

The city has released some details about how it has spent $18 million of a $50 million federal grant for security at the convention August 25th to 28th at the Pepsi Center and Invesco Field at Mile High. The information was released in response to a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union.

Rumors about the types of weapons to be used had been swirling around the blogosphere. One rumor was about a non-lethal system developed for the military that uses electromagnetic radiation to inflict pain from up to 550 feet. A statement from Mayor John Hickenlooper's office says city officials have made it clear that no such weapons will be used.

Some of the money has gone for equipment and overtime for police. Both Colorado Springs and Pueblo will provide police officers to help with security.
