A Colorado Springs native is a finalist on HGTV's Hit Show "Design Star."
Matt Locke now has a shot at his own show on the Home and Garden Network. Your Votes will make all the difference.
The Finale is this Sunday Night and after the show ends, the phone, fax, and email lines will open and viewers will start voting for their favorite. Locke, who sat down with NewsFirst's Lisa Lyden during a stop in Colorado Springs this week, says the show is one of the most exciting things he's ever done.
"Everything I've ever done in my life, lead me to this", Locke told Lyden. The 38 year old took Lyden to one of his favorite local spots, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. He took classes at Bemis Art School for years, starting when he was just 7 years old.
"This building, with it's clean Art Deco lines--I think there's a piece of this building in everything I design."
Locke is both a designer and a builder, constructing many of the items he's used during his challenges this season on "Design Star." His father, a local architect, and his mother, a local artist, certainly gave Locke a great foundation.
"My mom especially," Locke says, "is a huge fan of the show."
Locke graduated from Air Academy High School and went to college at Princeton. He returned to Colorado Springs after college and designed his own home in the Monument area, but later sold it, to raise money to follow his dreams in Los Angeles.
The "Design Star" finale is this Sunday night on HGTV at 7:00 p.m. That's Comcast Channel 44 and Direct TV Channel 229.
