Zoo's baby orangutan heading to Milwaukee

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's baby orangutan, 9 month old Mahal, is moving to Milwaukee. He was rejected by his mother, and a surrogate at the Milwaukee Zoo has been lined-up to adopt the little guy.

Following his birth, zoo keepers tried to interest first-time mother Hadiah in the newborn, but she never figured out parenting. Mahal was taken-in by the zoo's orangutan matriarch, Sandra. Sandra died in December at the age of 51. New efforts to introduce Hadiah to Mahal failed.

A going-away party will be held for Mahal at 10:00 on Wednesday. He'll be on display the remainder of this week.
