Nearly three dozen abused and neglected horses are at a new home in El Paso County. Authorities say they were being starved and neglected by a horse rescue organization called the Flying Ah Ranch.
Park County Animal control says the rescue organization did not have enough food for the horses. Roughly 30 percent of them were dangerously under weight. Authorities found four dead and frozen in the ground on the Flying Ah Ranch.
They also say two were kept in a living room. Owners Carol Ann Martin and Keith Synnestvedt had a Rottweiler that reportedly attacked one chewing its ear off.
The owners face seven counts of animal cruelty which is a misdimeanor.
The horses are now being cared for at DreamCatchers Equine Rescue in El Paso County. Owner Julie Demuesy says she's nursing them back to health. She hopes to find good homes for them. "I'm hoping that we can get most of them placed into foster or adopted homes within the next 30 to 60 days," said Demuesy.
She's also hoping to get other rescue organizations to help take care of the horses. "The ones that aren't adoptable, I'm hoping to have other rescue organizations give us a hand."
People interested in adopting the neglected horses are asked to contact DreamCatchers Equine Rescue.
