The Christmas spending spree is over, the new year's underway and we'll soon be getting those credit card bills.
The Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado is urging you to carefully check your bills, because as we've warned you, identity thieves love the holidays. And hopefully you recognize the charges on your card.
"When it comes to identity thieves, during Christmas, everybody is fair game," said Carol Odell, CEO of the Better Business Bureau of the Southern Colorado. She urges everyone to be on bill-paying alert, "Check those purchases carefully because there's so many ways they can get your number without ever even seeing it."
For example, a quick online search and News First Investigates was able to find a website that lists hundreds of credit card numbers. Obviously we aren't giving out the site's name, but are contacting the authorities.
Besides checking your bills, consumer advocates also recommend checking your credit report.
