Colorado Springs Utilities rakes in $7 million in power sales

A mild winter so far means that local residents are going easy on power usage. But power plants have continued to crank out the electricity. The result-a fat bank account for city-owned Utilities.
Colorado Springs Utilities has sold its excess electricity to other power entities. In addition, natural gas prices are lower this year than last year. And one final piece of good news--Utilities equipment is working efficiently. The result: $7 million in combined savings and new income. "It's a great thing to save $7 million," said Joel Holmes, CSU Energy Trader. "Those are real savings dollars. They will go toward pay for reliable energy to Colorado Springs Utilities customers."
Last year, CSU saved $2 million.
