A 20 year old Colorado Springs man was bitten by a rattlesnake while climbing Blodgett's Peak on the northwest side of Colorado Springs. Jonathon Baker was hiking with two close friends when he stepped on the coiled snake and was struck in the lower calf.
Friends fashioned a tourniquet out of a torn tee-shirt and called for help. Rescue teams from El Paso County Search and Rescue and Colorado Springs Fire Department hiked the peak and found the victim conscious. Unsure of how much venom might be in his body, rescuers requested additional help.
It took a military helicopter almost four hours to reach the victim and airlift him out. He was hospitalized in serious condition.
