Colorado Springs Police used a woman’s cell phone signal to track her downafter she was abducted in a Target parking lot. It happened early Saturday afternoon at the Cheyenne Mountain Target near Circle Drive and Venetucci Boulevard.

The 58 year old woman, whose name has not been released, was walking to her car when 41 year old Timothy Clapp robbed her and forced her into her car, police said. Clapp then drove her behind the store, struck her in the head, knocking her unconscious. Police Lieutenant Fletcher Howard says, “The victim was forced to the floor board of her car where she was duct taped.”

With the woman in the back seat, Clapp drove off. For the next two hours the victim remained tied up with her head covered, fighting to stay awake. Lt. Howard says, “She was semi-conscious due to the fact that she was struck in the head.”

When the woman regained consciousness police say she was outside an apartment complex a few miles northeast of Target at 3005 East Galley Road. Her abductor had left her alone while he went inside. The woman freed her hands, dialed 911 on her cell phone, but couldn’t tell police where she was, so police tracked her down using northing more than a signal.

Lt. Howard says, “While we were able to keep her on the phone, her GPS tracking device was able to lead us to the area where she was at.”

Police freed the woman who was taken to Memorial Hospital where she was “observed” for injuries to her head.

Clapp was arrested inside the complex and charged with 2nd Degree Kidnapping, 2nd Degree Assault and Robbery.
