Pueblo Police have arrested a 17-year-old male in connection to a deadly early morning shooting. They say the boy shot a 28-year-old man because he was affiliated with a rival gang.
It happened around 12:30 Saturday morning in the 600 block of East Northern Avenue. That is where police found a 28-year-old man shot in the chest on the sidewalk. The victim has been identified as Carl Eugene Quintana. He was taken to Saint Mary Corwin but died on arrival.
Police later arrested the 17-year-old boy after a SWAT team surrounded a vacant house at 622 East Third. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Police brought him to the Youth Services Center where he is being held without bond for First Degree Homicide.
The incident reportedly started with a dispute inside Quintana's home at 640 E. Northern Ave. Quintana asked the 17-year-old shooter and several others to leave his home. The group got into a car and then exchanged gunfire with Quintana, before speeding off. Nobody in the car was injured, according to Police.
Pueblo Police Detective Mark Bravo says the boy's gun is still missing. He is asking anyone with information about the weapon to contact police.
The 17-year-old's mother is not allowing him to cooperate with investigators, Bravo said.
