One of the more controversial amendments on the November ballot is Amendment 48 - the "person-hood" amendment. It defines "person" from the moment of fertilization. And guarantees the fertilized egg "protection" under the state constitution.
Members of "Yes on 48" argue the amendment merely lays the foundation for change and starts the discussion.
Opponents argue it goes much further. They say by giving a fertilized egg the same legal protections as the mother, it could lead to a ban on abortion, a ban on some birth control and even affect women's health issues and decisions.
Proponents say those are scare tactics and side issues.
Colorado is the first state to vote on the definition of "person-hood." Organizations around the country are watching the outcome.
