Denver Nugget and NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony apologized for his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He read from a prepared statement at the Pepsi Center Tuesday morning, and also spoke off-the-cuff.
Teammate Allen Iverson stood by his side during the remarks.
Police report that Anthony was pulled over for weaving and failing to dim his lights at about 4 a.m. Monday on I-25. He failed sobriety tests and was booked at police headquarters.
Here is a transcript of Anthony's comments:
"I want to apologize to my family, fans and the Denver Nuggets organization for my actions early Monday morning. As a leader, I know they expect a lot from me and I regret putting myself in this situation. I also want to apologize to my teammates for the distraction this has caused. Right now, I need to focus on my family and on basketball as my priorities. I want to thank everyone who has continued to support me during this difficult time. My attorneys have asked that I not comment further; however, I will continue to cooperate with all parties involved."
