The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News cite unnamed NFL sources in their reports.
The Post says the Broncos were not aware of the ruling before releasing Henry on June 2nd.
The newspaper says an unnamed source close to Henry confirms the league said he tested positive for marijuana in May.
In 2005, Henry served a four-game drug-related suspension while with Tennessee.
Last season, the NFL ruled Henry tested positive for the active ingredient in marijuana, but he appealed the ruling and won.
The Post says Henry missed three drug tests after that, which the league views as equivalent to a positive reading. But Henry's attorney successfully argued against testing procedures.
In May, Henry pulled his hamstring before offseason minicamps. The Broncos released him June 2nd, saying his commitment to the team was in question.
