Former NFL and FFC kicker elected to RMAC Hall of Fame

Former NFL All-Pro and Fountain-Fort Carson kicker Don Cockroft has been elected into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame.
He played 13 seasons with the Cleveland Browns as a placekicker and a punter. Cockroft, who played quarterback and kicker at Fountain-FortCarsonHigh School, didn't receive any scholarship offers coming out of high school, so he walked onto the AdamsState football team as a kicker and the rest is history.
Now that he has the RMAC Hall of Fame bid under his belt, the Canton, Ohio resident says, he'll be just down the street if the NFL hall of fame calls.
“One of the jokes is, people say, are you in the pro football hall of fame?” said Cockroft. “And I say, I live five minutes from there and that's probably the closest I'm ever going to get.”
Longtime Fountain-Fort Carson football coach Mitch Johnson graduated FFC a few years behind Cockroft.
“He was kind of a new breed,” said Johnson. “Now it's such a specialized field. Not only did he do the kickoff and kick the extra points, but he also punted and basically he had two jobs.”
