Fountain Valley's Tatje advances to 4A tennis championship

Niwot has all but wrapped up the 4A girls state high school tennis championship. After Friday’s semifinals at the City Park courts in Pueblo Niwot has an 18 point lead over second place Kent Denver. Defending champion Cheyenne Mountain is tied for fifth with 27 points.
Clarke Tatje from Fountain Valley is the only Southern Colorado player to advance to a championship match on Saturday. Tatje defeated Dani Scimeca from Fossil Ridge 6-0, 7-6 in Friday’s semifinal. She’ll play Sammie Watson from Kent Denver in Saturday’s number one singles championship match. Watson, who has beaten Tatje twice this year advanced to the final with a 6-0, 6-0 win over CheyenneMountain’s Meha Semwal.
The championship matches begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the City Park tennis complex in Pueblo.
