With billions of web pages to choose from, keeping up to date can be a daunting task.

What if you could have the latest news headlines delivered directly to you, rather than searching individual websites? Now you can, using a technology called RSS. RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” and allows you to identify content you like and have it delivered directly to you.

Not all websites offer RSS but it is growing rapidly in popularity.

How do I start getting RSS feeds?

The first thing you need is something called an RSS Aggregator. There are many different versions out there. Some are accessed using a browser, and some are downloadable applications. All allow you to display and subscribe to RSS feeds.

Some browsers, including Internet Explorer 7, Netscape 8, Firefox, Opera and Safari have functionality which automatically pick up RSS feeds for you. For more details on these, please check their websites.

There are many RSS Aggregators available. To make your choice easier, we’ve compiled a list of readers below for various operating systems.

Once you have chosen an RSS Aggregator, use the orange RSS button above to add it to your own reader, or click on the MyYahoo or MyMSN button to add it to your personalized Yahoo or MSN page. All you have to do is to decide what content you want.
